classic waffle cone dip recipe

Spread the love

This tip is inspired by one of our favorite go to treats…waffle cones. Here in PA we call them Drumsticks (just didn’t want you to think we were making a chicken dip this time). We’ve included all the classic element, from chocolate to sugar cone pieces to chopped nuts, and a base of creamy sweet goodness.

Now let’s get right to the good stuff…

drumstick dip instructions:

Stick around to the end, and I’ll give you a few pointers that I learned along the way.

  • With a hand blender, mix together cream cheese, milk and vanilla.
  • Then slowly mix in the powdered sugar.
  • With a spoon or spatula, mix in the mini chocolate chips.
  • Spread the mixture into the bottom of a pie dish.
  • Then pour the fudge sauce on top.
  • Place the cones into a ziploc bag and break into small pieces but don’t over-crush.
  • Sprinkle with chopped nuts and broken up cones on top.
  • Enjoy with butter cookies or graham crackers.

a few tips…

This dip does not hold well. It’s best to be served fresh because the pieces of sugar cone will get soggy. You may even want to wait until the last minute to garnish with the broken cones.

Also, we used a fudge topping for this recipe, and it was super yummy. However, my preference is always for a richer chocolate. Given this, I think that it would have had a better overall flavor if I’d used Hershey’s special dark syrup instead of the creamier milk chocolate fudge. I’ll leave it up to you to decide your preference.

What to serve with this dessert dip

There are lots of ways to go with this dip for serving. We tried several and kept coming back to simple graham crackers. I think it’s because they are one of the closest flavors to the waffle cone itself. BTW, we did try use actual waffle cone, but it just didn’t hold up very well and kept breaking. Other options might be cinnamon and sugar pita chips, wafer cookies, Nilla wafers, chocolate wafers or shortbread cookies.

what if I’m allergic to peanuts?

All of the dips on this site are eat at your own caution. In this case, if you’re allergic to peanuts, leave them out or replace them with another nut that does not have the same impact on your system. Proceed with caution.

do we have a preferred cream cheese brand?

Yes!!! I understand that this is a personal preference, but I always use Philadelphia cream cheese (even though Philly is our sports rival here in Pittsburgh). There’s just something about the taste. That being said, any cream cheese brand will work just fine. So, stick with your favorite brand when making this dip.
