Melty Brie with Fig Jam Appetizer Recipe

Spread the love

The mellow flavor of brie pairs perfectly with so many flavors. In this recipe we combine salty, sweet, savory and nutty. The brie gets topped with fig jam, nuts and honey for the appetizer for any meal. Add in the melty goodness, and this is sheer perfection.

Now let’s get right to the good stuff…

  • 8 oz Wheel brie
  • Fig jam
  • Honey roasted pecan pieces
  • Honey

ingredient information:

  • Brie cheese: Brie has a super mellow flavor, which makes it perfect for pairing with almost any other flavors. It also melts easily, and we love a good cheese pull. In this instance, we removed just the top wax covering, but you can choose to simply score the top about 1/2 inch deep into the cheese wheel.
  • Fig jam: Almost any jam will work for this simple appetizer. Fig is a classic flavoring paired with brie. Some other options would be apricot jam, peach jam or orange marmalade.
  • Honey: We love using local honey from the farmer’s market when it’s available, but we live in PA where the farmer’s markers are seasonal. So we just grab whatever’s at the grocery store. To top off your dip, you can also opt for hot honey instead.
  • Honey roasted pecans: We chose to skip the prep and buy our honey roasted pecans HERE. It’s a big enough bag to use for several recipes. But if you enjoy the process and want to make your own, this recipe from Cooking with Carlee is just the thing.

instructions:

Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you our favorite dipper for this dip.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Place the wheel of brie in a small crock or in a pie plate.
  3. Score the top of the brie about ½ inch deep in a crisscross fashion or remove the top layer of wax.
  4. Generously spread fig jam on top of the brie wheel.
  5. Cover and bake for 15 to 20 minutes until the brie melts.
  6. Remove from the oven and top with honey roasted pecan pieces.
  7. Drizzle with honey.

my recipe tips

  • Don’t do this: To be honest, this is not my best work in executing a recipe. I always seem to get distracted and let the brie melt too much. It takes just a moment from it to go from oozy and delicious to cheese puddle. So, pay attention and check your cheese often.
  • Berry it up: Instead of a sweet flavor profile with fig jam, turn to berries instead. Use a berry jam or compote and bits of diced strawberries or whole raspberries, blackberries and blueberries on top. Garnish with the honey roasted pecans and honey as usual.
  • Date night dip: This is the kind of appetizer that I like to create for a cozy night in with the hubby. The serving size is small, and it’s a light dip that we can enjoy without guilt that we’ll regret the calories the next day. Pair it with your favorite drink and a good movie, and you have the perfect date night in.
  • A bit of bacon: The only thing that might make this yummy starter even better is a bit of bacon for some savory and salty flavor. In my opinion, bacon makes almost everything better. Use premade real bacon bits, or (my favorite) cook a few strips of bacon to crispy and crumble them.

🍽️ serving ideas

There are lots of things that you can dip into this delicious brie and jam appetizer, but our favorite is some toasted crusty garlic bread. I have the perfect recipe that you can check out HERE. You can also use chunks of rustic bread, store made toasties, bagel chips or just crackers.

If you’re having a get together with lots of appetizers, this dip recipe is great alongside this strawberry basil cheesecake recipe or this Reuben dip. Then there will be a little something for everyone.

start with the right tools

You can bake this brie in a pie plate or 2 quart baking dish, but you’ll get a much better result with the right tools to start…a brie wheel baking crock with a lid. It is the perfect size for the wheel of brie, bakes it to perfection and serves as a beautiful serving dish too. There are lots of styles and colors to choose from. recipe notes

  • Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you get the best results for this super yummy dip.
  • Storage: Keep leftovers (if you even have any) covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 to 4 days. I don’t recommend freezing this dip, as it may affect the texture.
  • Dip prep: This dip is not good when prepared ahead of time. Wait until just before serving to place the brie in the oven.
  • Reheat: You can use the microwave, air fryer or oven to reheat this dip. My preference is to place it back in the oven until warmed through and the cheese is melty.
