Now let’s get right to the good stuff…

how to make spicy ranch dip

INGREDIENTS:

  • 16 oz sour cream
  • 2 Tbsp dried parsley
  • 2 Tbsp dried dill
  • 4 tsp garlic powder
  • 4 tsp onion powder
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • ¼ cup hot sauce
  • Optional: splash buttermilk
  • Optional: ½ Tbsp pepper flakes

ingredient information:

  • Sour cream: I put sour cream on almost everything (and that’s not an exaggeration), and I’m super picky about the brand. My preferred sour cream is Daisy brand. The taste and texture are perfect for this spicy ranch dip recipe.
  • Herbs: The dried herbs in this recipe combine to form the base for a basic ranch dip or dressing. If you prefer, you replace the herbs with a packet of premade Ranch dressing.
  • Buttermilk: I first made this dip without buttermilk but found that just a few splashes make all the difference in the taste.
  • Hot sauce: You can use your favorite hot sauce for this recipe. We used Frank’s Red Hot.

instructions:

Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you what to serve with this dip.

  1. Combine all of the herbs, including parsley, dill, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper in a small bowl.
  2. Add the sour cream to the bowl and mix well.
  3. Stir in the hot sauce to taste.
  4. Optional: Add a splash of buttermilk and mix in. (Be sure not to make the dip too thin.)
  5. Optional: Add pepper flakes for a higher heat level.
  6. Transfer to a serving dish.

my recipe tips

  • Heat level: The amount of hot sauce listed in the ingredients list is a starting place. Taste it and decide if you’d like to add more based on your personal preference. You can also increase the heat level with some hot pepper flakes.
  • Herbs: We used dried herbs in this recipe, but you can also opt for fresh dill and parsley. If using fresh herbs instead, use 2 to 3 times as much.
  • Give it time: I recommend making this dip ahead of time as it really does taste better after the flavors have had some time to marry.
  • Meal idea: This spicy ranch dip would make a great replacement for mayo in a chicken salad or an egg salad.

🍽️ serving ideas

Our favorite thing to serve with this spice Ranch dip is sweet peppers. You can also opt for other veggies like cucumbers, baby carrots, cherry tomatoes and celery. It’s perfect for any relish tray. You can also serve it with potato chips or pretzels.

If you’re having a get together with lots of appetizers, this dip recipe is great alongside waffle cone dip or this charcuterie dip. Then there will be a little something for everyone.

  • Storage: Keep leftovers (if you even have any) covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 to 5 days. I don’t recommend freezing this dip, as it may affect the texture.
  • Dip prep: You can do this ahead. The flavors are even better as the days go by.
