- ½ cup diced provolone cheese
- ½ cup diced hard salami
- ½ cup diced ham
- ½ cup diced pepperoni
- ¼ cup diced pepperoncini (reserve the juice)
- Optional: minced onions
Dressing
- ½ cup extra virgin olive oil
- ¼ cup red wine vinegar
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp minced garlic
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 Tbsp juice from peppers
- drizzle of Dijon mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
ingredient information:
- Salami: For this dip, we chose dry Italian salami. My grocery store didn’t sell it by the chunk, but we were able to purchase thick cut bite sized salami.
- Pepperoni: For this dip, go with a chunk of pepperoni rather than pre-sliced for the best results.
- Ham: To save a step, we found some pre-diced ham. Any time I can take a short cut without compromising flavor I will.
- Provolone cheese: Provolone cheese has a mild flavor and is perfect in dips. Because of its gentle flavor it compliments so many foods.
- Pepperoncini peppers: Feel free to substitute banana peppers for these. The flavors are very similar.
- Olive oil: We favor using extra virgin olive oil in our recipes for its rich flavor. This ingredient is a staple in Mediterranean food. It is high in monounsaturated fats and antioxidants that reduce inflammation and is often used as a substitute for butter in cooking.
- Red wine vinegar: This vinegar is both tangy and a bit sweet. Using this vinegar gives us a chance to eliminate sugar from the dressing.
- Italian seasoning: Italian seasoning is a blend of dried herbs that pair perfectly with Italian dishes and often includes elements such as basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, and marjoram. It will sometimes also include parsley, garlic powder, or red pepper flakes.
- Dijon mustard: You can substitute any yellow or brown mustard for the Dijon.
instructions:
Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you our favorite dipper for this delicious dip.
- Cut the cheese and meats into small pieces, about ¼ inch cubes and place in a bowl.
- Also dice the pepperoncini peppers finely and place in the bowl.
- Optional: Add minced onions.
- Prepare the dressing by combining all of the ingredients and whisking together. You can also use a frother.
- Pour the dressing over your Italian sub ingredients and mix well.

my recipe tips
- Spice it up: If you like your Italian sub to be a bit spicier, use spicy salami and capicola (instead of ham) in this recipe. You can also add some red pepper flakes and a splash of hot sauce.
- Customize it: Everyone likes different things on their Italian sub. So, customize this dip the same way you would customize your sandwich. You could add diced tomatoes, hot peppers, pickles, black olives, roasted red peppers, onions, and other cheeses or meats to this dip as desired.
- Other than a dip: Of course, we’re eating this on some toasties as a dip, but you can also use this concoction as a salad topping, in a pita or to top your cottage cheese.

🍽️ serving ideas
There are lots of things that you can dip into this delicious Italian sub dip, but our favorite is some toasted crusty garlic bread. I have the perfect recipe that you can check out HERE. You can also just use chunks of rustic bread, crackers, store made toasties, bagel chips or even tortilla chips. If you want a healthier version, use romaine lettuce leaves.
If you’re having a get together with lots of appetizers, this dip recipe is great alongside this Reuben dip and this lemon and blueberry dessert dip. Then there will be a little something for everyone.

recipe notes
- Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you get the best results for this super yummy dip.
- Storage: Keep leftovers (if you even have any) covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 to 5 days. I don’t recommend freezing this dip, as it may affect the texture.
- Dip prep: You can prepare this dip ahead of time and let the vinaigrette marinate. It’s even better the second day. Allow it to reach room temperature and give it a good mix prior to serving.
