  • 1 cup diced strawberries
  • 1/2 cup diced kiwi
  • 1 cup diced yellow apple
  • 1/2 cup dice nectarines
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips
  • Honey

ingredient information:

  • Strawberries: We live in a day and age when there is no off season for strawberries. How lucky are we? To choose the best and sweetest, I always give them a sniff at the grocery store. Just because they’re red doesn’t mean they’ll be good, but you can never go wrong if they have that sweet strawberry smell to them.
  • Kiwi: Give your kiwi a gentle squeeze at the grocery store. If ripe, they should give just a bit but not feel too mushy. You can replace the kiwi with quartered green grapes.
  • Yellow apple: Apples are vital to this recipe for their firmness. You can replace it with other types of apples, but skip the softer varieties, like Macintosh.
  • Nectarines: Feel free to use what’s in season. You can replace the nectarines with peaches or mango.
  • Blueberries: These give this fruit salsa another flavor, along with a fresh color and even shape. I don’t recommend trading out this fruit in the recipe.
  • Mini semi-sweet chocolate chips: Semi-sweet chips are a great pairing with the sweet fruit. However, you can also choose milk chocolate or dark chocolate chips if that’s your preference.
  • Honey: We love using local honey from the farmer’s market when it’s available, but we live in PA where the farmer’s markers are seasonal. So we just grab whatever’s at the grocery store. To top off your dip, you can also opt for hot honey instead.

instructions:

Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you how we serve this special treat.

  1. Dice all of the fruit into small pieces, about ⅛ inch in size.
  2. Once diced, combine the fruits into a bowl and mix together.
  3. Add in the mini chocolate chips and mix gently.
  4. Transfer the fruit salsa to a serving dish.
  5. Drizzle with honey.

my recipe tips

  • Customize it: Of course, there are so many fruits that you could use in this fruit salsa that would work great. Feel free to change out the ingredients for your favorites. One thing to keep in mind is to use fruit that will stand up to being cut in small pieces and has a bit of firmness to it so that you don’t end up with fruit soup instead. Also, think about having a variety of colors so that it’s as pleasing to the eye as it is to the tastebuds. Last, skip the citrus. It has a tendency to take over and muddy all of the other flavors.
  • By Hand: It is a lot of work to chop all of this fruit by hand, but it’s how to get the best finished product. I don’t recommend using a chopper…and definitely not a food processor.
  • Herb it up: Let me tell you a secret…when I first made the recipe for this fruit salsa it didn’t include chocolate. Instead, the addition to lift the fruit flavors was basil. Feel free to give it a try.

  • Dip prep: You can prepare this fruit salsa ahead of time, but not more than a day ahead. Wait until time to serve to drizzle with honey.
