- Frozen tater tots
- Cooking spray
- Season salt
ingredient information:
- Tater tots: You can grab any bag of frozen tater tots (aka tater puffs) for this recipe.
- Cooking spray: We used the olive oil cooking spray that we had on hand for this. You can use any type you have. It can also be replaced with a brush of olive oil or even butter. The point of this part of the recipe is to promote a crispy outer coating.
- Season salt: In our family we put season salt on almost everything, but it’s not the only seasoning you can use. Choose your favorite. You will also need to add some salt if not already included.
instructions:
Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you how to toast your rye bread for serving.
- Bake the tater tots according to bag instructions but reduce cook time by 5 minutes.
- Once baked almost fully, pull from the oven and place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. There should be space between each.
- Use a glass to smash each tater tot.
- Spray with cooking spray and sprinkle on seasoning salt.
- Return to the oven and bake for an additional 10 to 15 minutes until crispy.

my recipe tips
- Stop the stick: To keep the cup from sticking to the tater tots when you’re smashing them, spray the bottom with some cooking spray.
- Timing is everything: When finishing off the tater tot chips, you may want to add some extra cook time or even 1 minute under the broiler to get to the crispiness that you want.

recipe notes
- Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you get the best results for this fun dipper.
- Storage: Keep leftovers (if you even have any) covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 5 to 6 days.
- Dipper prep: You can prepare these dippers ahead of time, but you will need to heat them back up at the time of serving.
- Reheat: You can use the air fryer or oven to reheat this dip. They do not do well in the microwave. Just bake until crispy again. It usually only takes about 10 minutes in a standard oven at 400 degrees.
