  • Hummus of your choice
  • Roasted red peppers
  • Olives
  • Feta cheese
  • Capers
  • Balsamic glaze
  • Salt & pepper to taste

ingredient information:

  • Hummus: Use your favorite store-bought hummus for this recipe or make your own with this recipe.
  • Roasted red peppers: Roasted red peppers have a smoky and sweet flavor that is unmatched. We went the easy route and purchased jarred roasted red peppers. However, you can make your own rather easily with this recipe from Alexandra’s Kitchen.
  • Capers: I personally think that capers make everything just a little bit better. That’s why we saved a few to garnish the top of this puree so that you get a little explosion of flavor in each bite. They are briny and pungent and a staple in Mediterranean dishes.
  • Italian olives: Choose your favorite Italian or kalamata olives for this recipe. We picked a combo of green Italian olives and a few kalamatas.
  • Feta cheese: This cheese is known for its sharp and tangy flavor and is a staple in Mediterranean food. I prefer to use block feta in liquid since the flavor tends to be more mild and a bit saltier. You can choose your favorite for this recipe.
  • Balsamic glaze: Balsamic glaze has all the amazing flavor of balsamic vinegar but concentrated and sweeter. You can make your own by simply reducing the vinegar over low heat until it thickens enough to coat the spoon or buy it by the bottle like we did.

instructions:

Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you how to really make this dip your own.

  1. Spread the hummus on a small platter or plate.
  2. Layer on the roasted red peppers.
  3. Add some olives on top.
  4. Crumble the feta and sprinkle it on the hummus.
  5. Spoon on some capers.
  6. Finally, drizzle on the balsamic glaze.

my recipe tips

  • Make it your own: For this layered hummus dip we went with Mediterranean flavors, but hummus is the perfect foundation for lots of different flavor profiles. You can layer on Mexican flavors like taco meat, salsa, cheese and sour cream. Try some dried cranberries, goat cheese and honey. You can even go sweet with a base of chocolate hummus with some chopped strawberries and balsamic glaze. I’d love to hear your ideas for a flavor combo.
  • Keep it simple: Laying on all these flavors does make the actual hummus flavor fade into the background. If you are a hummus lover, keep the toppings minimal so that the hummus shines through more.

🍽️ serving ideas

There are lots of things that you can dip into this delicious layered hummus dip, but our favorite is some warmed naan bread, particularly the garlic naan. You can also just use chunks of rustic bread, pita, crackers, garlic toasties, bagel chips or even tortilla chips. If you want a healthier version, use celery sticks, lettuce leafs or baby carrots.

If you’re having a get together with lots of appetizers, this dip recipe is great alongside this tomato and burrata dip and this cannoli dip. Then there will be a little something for everyone.

DATE NIGHT DIP

This is the kind of dip that I like to create for a cozy night in with the hubby. It goes together quickly and easily. Plus, the serving size is small, and it’s a light dip that we can enjoy without guilt that we’ll regret the calories the next day. Pair it with your favorite drink, like the super fun dirty sodas and other amazing mixed drinks over on Instagram with @ashleylaurentassano. Add a good movie, and you have the perfect date night in.
