Amazing Put A Ring On It Cheese Dip

Spread the love

This dip is so good he’s going to want to “put a ring on it” (but only if that’s what you want…you’re a strong independent gal). The flavors here are not like any dip you’ve ever tasted before, but, trust me, once you do taste it you’re going to want to make it over and over again. We’re going to take all of our favorite flavors…sweet, sour, salty, savory, umami…and put them together in a super simple crockpot dip, perfect for any get together or Netflix and chill night in.

Now let’s get right to the good stuff…

how to make put a ring on it cheese dip

INGREDIENTS:

  • 8 oz package cream cheese-softened
  • 8 oz block Colby Jack cheese
  • 12 oz bottle Heinz chili sauce
  • 18 oz jar grape jelly
  • 1 lb. prepared ground beef (drained)
  • 1 cup bacon crumbles

ingredient information:

  • Bacon crumbles: We used 8 pieces of thick applewood smoke bacon for this recipe, cooked to crispy and then crumbled. If possible, we always recommend making the crumbles from scratch, but you can also use premade bacon crumbles like THESE for this dip recipe.
  • Chili sauce: If you’re not familiar with this ingredient, it looks similar to cocktail sauce but with a slightly different flavor profile. There are other brands, but the only one we recommend using in this recipe is always Heinz chili sauce. We found chili sauce in the condiment section of our grocery store.
  • Grape jelly: Any brand of grape jelly works for this recipe. You can also use grape jam instead.
  • Ground beef: Prepare the ground beef by cooking it fully and crumbling it like you would for tacos. You can use any percent ground beef. We chose 85% for this recipe. Drain off the grease if there is any before adding it to the crockpot.
  • Cream cheese: We prefer using Philadelphia brand cream cheese for this dip, though any brand will work. You do not need to soften the cream cheese ahead of time for this recipe.
  • Colby Jack cheese: If you buy a block of Colby Jack cheese, take a minute to chunk it up before adding it to the crockpot. We saved ourselves a smidge of effort by purchasing already cubed cheese. This cheese has a mellow and slightly nutty flavor that melts easily, making it perfect for this dip.

instructions:

Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you what dips pair with this deliciousness.

  1. Prepare 6 to 8 pieces of thick bacon to crispness and crumble. Place it in the crockpot.
  2. Cook the ground beef to a crumble and drain it. Place the cooked ground beef into the crockpot.
  3. Cube the Colby Jack cheese and also place it in the crockpot.
  4. Add the rest of the ingredients to the crockpot.
  5. Turn to low and cook 2 ½ to 3 hours, stirring occasionally throughout the cook time.
  6. When finished, all of the cheese will be fully melted and the ingredients will be well incorporated.

my recipe tips

  • Cheese options: We chose to use Colby Jack cheese in this recipe for it’s mild flavor and meltiness (is that a word?). Other cheeses that would also work include Provolone, Monterey Jack, Fontina, Havarti, Cheddar, Velveeta, Mozzarella or Gouda.
  • High vs. Low: When using cream cheese in a crockpot dip, we always keep the heat on low to avoid curdling.
  • Spice it up: We were happy with the sweet, sour, savory and salty flavors combined in this dip, but you can also add one more element…heat. The best way to do this is to add some hot sauce of your choice in an amount to your own taste for spice level.

🍽️ serving ideas

There are lots of things that you can dip into this delicious sweet and sour beef dip, but our favorite is simple tortilla chips as long as they’re not too delicate. Other choices for dippers might include, crackers, chunks of bread, or toasty garlic bread.

If you’re having a get together with lots of appetizers, this dip recipe is great alongside this chocolate brownie bites dip or this classic layered taco dip. Then there will be a little something for everyone.

equipment you’ll need

If you don’t already have one at home, this is the perfect time to grab yourself a crockpot. Believe me, they’re a lifesaver. Ours is on a constant rotation for family meals and party favs. For this recipe, we used a 3 quart size like THIS ONE. In all honesty, if you’re making this for a party I would double the recipe and use a 6 to 8 quart crockpot instead, like THIS ONE or THIS ONE.

do we have a preferred cream cheese brand?

Yes!!! I understand that this is a personal preference, but I always use Philadelphia cream cheese (even though Philly is our sports rival here in Pittsburgh). There’s just something about the taste. That being said, any cream cheese brand will work just fine. So, stick with your favorite brand when making this dip.

recipe notes

  • Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you get the best results for this super yummy dip.
  • Storage: Keep leftovers (if you even have any) covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 to 5 days. I don’t recommend freezing this dip, as it may affect the texture.
  • Dip prep: You can prepare this dip ahead of time and just warm it up at the time of serving.
  • Reheat: To reheat this you can use the microwave for individual servings. When reheating a larger portion, place it back in the crockpot or use the oven. You can even heat this in a pot on the stovetop.
