Super Fun Cereal and Milk Dip Recipe

Spread the love

Who doesn’t love a good cereal? It’s the perfect food any time of the day. This dip allows you to choose your favorite cereal (we used Fruity Pebbles) and add it to the sweet and creamy “milk” base for the most amazing treat. Take it to your next get together and be the talk of the party.

Now let’s get right to the good stuff…

  • 2 8 oz. packages cream cheese-softened
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • Milk of your choice
  • 1 ½ cups cereal of your choice

ingredient information:

  • Cream cheese: We prefer using Philadelphia brand cream cheese for this dip, though any brand will work. If you haven’t had a chance to leave it out to soften, just pop it in the microwave for about 20 to 30 seconds.
  • Vanilla: A quality vanilla really does elevate any recipe. Skip the imitation and use a quality vanilla extract instead.
  • Milk or cream: The milk in this recipe is only used if you need to alter the consistency of the creamy base. You can use any type of unflavored milk or cream for this.
  • Powdered Sugar: This is not to be confused with white sugar. It’s very finely milled and combined with a small amount of an anti clumping agent so that it appears like snow. It melts into the cream cheese to form the perfect creamy base to take on other flavors.
  • Cereal of your choice: We chose Fruity Pebbles for it’s sweetness and colors, but you can use your favorite. Almost anything will work, even Raisin Bran. I think Captain Crunch, Cocoa Puffs or Apple Jacks would also be great choices for this dip.

instructions:

Stick around to the end, and I’ll tell you what to serve with this dip.

  1. With a hand blender, mix together the cream cheese and vanilla.
  2. Then slowly mix in the powdered sugar.
  3. Add a splash of milk as needed to reach the perfect consistency.
  4. Spread the mixture into the bottom of a pie dish.
  5. Top the mixture with the cereal of your choice. We like Fruity Pebbles for the flavor and colors.

my recipe tips

  • Choosing a cereal: It’s true that just about any cereal can be used for this dip. However, if you choose one that’s larger, break it into smaller pieces before spreading it on top. For example, Cinnamon Toast Crunch would taste amazing on this, but the individual pieces are a bit large. So, just pop them in a ziploc bag and break them up a bit. Just don’t go too far and turn it into a dust.
  • Just a splash: When adding milk into the mixture, just add a splash at a time. The dip can easily go from perfect to puddle. If you do accidentally go too far, just add in a bit more powdered sugar to get back to the correct consistency (spreadable but not soupy).

🍽️ serving ideas

There are lots of things that you can dip into this delicious cereal and milk dip, but our favorite is some shortbread cookies. You can also use wafer cookies, graham crackers or Oreos. You could also dive into the breakfast theme and use french toast sticks as the dipper.

If you’re having a get together with lots of appetizers, this dip recipe is great alongside this pizza dip or this charcuterie dip. Then there will be a little something for everyone.

start with the right tools

The main kitchen tool that you’ll need to make this dip is a simple hand mixer. I think that we still have the one that we received as a wedding gift 30 years ago now. Those things last forever. However, if you’re looking to buy your first ever or just want an upgrade, check out THIS ONE or THIS ONE. They’re both reasonably priced, work great and add a little style to your dip making experience. Pair it with this set of mixing bowls that comes in a variety of colors.

do we have a preferred cream cheese brand?

Yes!!! I understand that this is a personal preference, but I always use Philadelphia cream cheese (even though Philly is our sports rival here in Pittsburgh). There’s just something about the taste. That being said, any cream cheese brand will work just fine. So, stick with your favorite brand when making this dip.

recipe notes

  • Tips: Check out my recipe tips above to help you get the best results for this super yummy dip.
  • Storage: Keep leftovers (if you even have any) covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 to 5 days. I don’t recommend freezing this dip, as it may affect the texture.
  • Dip prep: You can prepare the base of this dip ahead of time, but hold off on adding the cereal top until just before serving to avoid it getting soggy.
